Foosball table maintenance: what the hell is that? The foosball table is in the room, but somehow it doesn't play like it did six months ago. The bars are jammed, the track is slipping, the gate is rattlingbut why? Because, like any other device, it needs to be maintained to keep it in good condition and to preserve the gaming experience. Let's start with some foosball tables maintenance fist rule, and then come to the table-specific stuff. Since there is a lot of information, I will publish them as two consecutive articles. In the first, I will cover general information and the Garlando models.
Foosball table maintenance basics
All foosball tables must be maintained. How often this should be done depends on how much you use it. Every 3-6 months is worth clean up, or to replace tired parts. It is true for pretty much all tables, regardless of type and operating principle, that the playing surface must be cleaned. There are two reasons for this it stops the dust that balls and dummies pick up, on the other hand, players touch the parts of the table and the leather surface is greasy, so a a grease-oil mixture is applied to the pitch. Typically, the dirt stops at the edge of the pitch and forms small puddles on which the ball changes direction.
Another typical problem is that the materials used as lubricants, sprayed on a rod, will bind the dust once dry. Since the fooshing table is nothing but a moving mechanism, the lubricant on the rods will carry the in bearing or the slider the food where it sits. So after a while, even if you spray more and more Pronto or put oil on the rods, it won't slide because you have to dismantle the bearing and clean it. In other words, it's unavoidable, it has to be done at certain intervals. If there were two basic rules on the subject of foosball table maintenance, these would be the two.
Tools for foosball table maintenance
Maintenance of the foosball table always by removing the rods to get access to the playing surface. You'll definitely need tools for this, except on models that have unscrewable bushings, like the Ullrich-Sport P4P or the newer Leonhart Tournaments. Prepare a an allen key, a star and a torx key set, but even better if you have a bit set of this kind and you put it in a screwdriver. Some tables require a LOT of bolts to be unscrewed to maintain the table, so it is best to do this by machine rather than by hand.
Once the poles are out, it's time to clean up the pitch. The easiest way is to use a mini cordless vacuum cleaner to use. We bought some Xiaomi Mijia car vacuum cleaner, which can be used to suck out the juvie from the edges and corners of the pitch in 10 minutes, and can also be used as a crumb vacuum cleaner in the home. wash with plain soapy water, it dissolves grease and removes impurities. For cleaning a a smooth sponge which can be used to rub - it's good for Garlando's sandblasted glass - but it doesn't damage plastic surfaces either. Since the rods are out, you can remove the bearing cover plates or pop out the sliding bushings.
Here I would like to draw your attention to an important difference, which relates to the correct movement of the rods. There are several solutions, the two most typical being ball bearing and the slider bubble, but you can meet with telescopic bars mounted tables, which I will not deal with here. The difference between the first two is that:
- A slider bubble, although in common parlance everyone says that it is "bearing", but it's not really. The solution is nothing more than two plastic profiles turned towards each other, which form a complete cylinder casing, in which the rod moves. NOT to be greased, just spray a lubricant on the rod
- A ball bearing, a slightly more complex structure than the former, usually with steel balls running in a groove in a metal ring, surrounded by a plastic bushing in which the inner steel ring rotates. To keep the bearing in the side of the table, two plastic cloaks on the sides, that holds the rotating mechanism in place. It needs fat, and sometimes the bearing needs to be washed with detergent and the grease needs to be renewed
Both the bushings and the bearings must be cleaned. The former just needs a damp, soapy cloth to wipe over it, or you can wash it off when you take it out. For the bearing washing or spot-cleaning with petrol wash the bearing - this is for degreasing - until the dirt and residual grease are removed. It's a pretty tedious, smelly, dirty job, and takes considerably longer than cleaning out the bushings. Once the bearings are cleaned, blowing Würth grease and then turn them over to distribute them evenly.
As the rods are out, if there are broken track element, gate inner - typical Garlando foosball table problems -, Retrieved from kapufa - P4P disease - or sheared gate inner, these can also be replaced. The same is true for Broken bábura or the for a wobbly screw - the agony of the Leonhart foosball tables - and stiftre, these are also worth repairing or replacing with the bars removed. By and large these fall under general maintenance, let's look at the specific stuff.
Maintenance of Garlando foosball tables
Let's start with the Garlando, because it is the table with the highest number of pieces in Hungary. For the Garlando brand, the tables can be divided into two groups. A Garlando Olimpia different variants, of which the newer ones, and in particular the Silver the better, as I have written in this article. The Olympics, being indoor tables, are also loaded with a few extra things, such as glass and integrated lighting, and the financial auditor. It makes sense to wipe the glass and replace the fluorescent tube in the burnt-out neon light. Unfortunately, the Stadium lighting in older Olympics is very prone to contact failure, so if it's not burning, it may not be its fault. It could be a contact problem, but the transformer can also kink. Your cash register isn't the best design in the world, it's full of a bunch of springs and other moving parts, they can wear out, but basically they're relatively easy to replace if you have some technical affinity. If there is a way, buy an LED-lit Olimpia Silver, they are much better than the other versions.
The other Garlando tables are open, so the maintenance issues above don't affect them. Basically, I can comment on the Garlando Maracana and WM models, and the cheaper variants of the latter - Pro Champion and Master Champion - which are very similar tables. The cleaning here should also start with what I wrote in the general section, the by removing the bars. Unfortunately, the dummies are cast on the lines at the factory, so if the coating is damaged - which might be nickel? - and starts to rust, if the rod is bent, then change the line, there is no other solution.
Bearings should be soaked overnight in washing gasoline, but I've also heard of people who Brigéciolt - which is a degreasing and engine-washing cleaner - and even Petroleum used. I have only tried the former, the main thing is that the fluid removes grease and dirt from the bearings and does not dissolve the plastic. If the flushing is successful, you then need to regrease the bearings, which used to be done Würth inflatable fat I used it when I had a Garlando table. There are several of these, if you go into a hardware or DIY store they can help you, but I suggest you take a bearing with you as a sample. Then you can use the degreasing of sandblasted glass, which is effectively means washing with soap. Feel free to rub it with a sponge, it won't sand down the sandblasting. It's a lot of play, typically under the forward line. In that case, you either have to replace the glass or take it to a sandblaster, which is a hassle, I think it's easier to buy a new one. It is also worth replacing the tin door handles, it's the removal and reinsertion of a few star-headed screws and a new gatefold means inserting.
It is also worth re-tightening the screws on the legs, which is a workable thing for the Olimpia Silver and WM, but for the older Olimpia and Maracana it just delays the inevitable swing. It helps a little if you test under the screw with a size washer, then the screw head will have a larger surface area. The final finishing touch is to make the surface of the rods slippery, for this WD40 used for years by the riders, which is an oil. This NOT in the bearing, but on the rod, but in the long run it washes the grease out of the bearing, which is why it needs to be regreased.
That's about all you need to know about Garlando foosball table maintenance, but for more serious operations such as lamp transformer repair, carpentry, etc., you need additional knowledge that may require the help of a professional.
