P4P is short for Players 4 Players and is not a table manufacturer, but an officially registered non-profit organisation in Germany - about this you can read here more, in English and German - a community of players. Officially known as "Players 4 Players Table Football Association e. V.". So how did you end up in the table makers? Because the name of the community has become associated over the years with the tables they use, then still on Löwen tables were played, followed by the also German Lehmacher manufacturer products - colloquially known as the P4P, named after the sound of the plastic ring in front of the rubber horn - and a few years ago the Ullrich Sport tables organise the competitions. So, in fact the name of the manufacturer is Ullrich Sport, but in common parlance everyone uses the term P4P.
It is very important to understand that P4P is not just about the table, it's about community, a sense of life and the atmosphere that this organisation can create. Obviously the mood is inexpressible in writing, so here are the numbers instead: the organisation has 10 000 competitors, of which 1500 are active, and the number of players participating in the P4P World Championship has reached 800 - the all-time record is held in Bonn, with nearly 1000 participants, in the larger tournaments, the number of tables can exceed 40. The organisation's members work on a charitable basis - the organisers do not receive any money for their work - but the strongest field in the world - in conjunction with the US Tornado field - so I highly recommend everyone to attend one of these events - the you can find the competition calendar here -, because the experience is guaranteed.
The Ullrich Sport "P4P" product range
Hereinafter referred to as the manufacturer Ullrich as a sport I'll refer to it, because it's clear to everyone that this is what it's really about. This manufactory also sells a number of models, but we will only deal with a few of them, because they are relevant in this country. One is the Ullrich Sport Sport - yes, I know, it's confusing that the manufacturer with the same name also calls its own table Sport - which is an exercise table, quite cheaply. The track elements, the bars and the dummies are practically identical to the official racing table, the Ullrich Tournamenttel. But its casing is different, and it is also considerably lighter - 105 kilos - but usable. Its most important feature is that it is cheap, only EUR 700, or HUF 265 000, you could say it's a champion in terms of price/value, but of course by the time it gets to Hungary, the cost of transport is added.
It is also worth mentioning the Ullrich Beastet, which I think is the best looking foosball table fin, and not incidentally Recognised by ITSF, i.e. the other official German table a Leonhart Tournament - read more about it here - in addition to. The price is around 1250 EUR and it differs slightly from the Ullrich Tournament in both case and weight.
The third table in question is the Ullrich Tournament, this is the official table of the DTFB, or this is also where the P4P competitions are organised. An very robust - He weighs 135 kilos, so if you haven't seen men cry yet, make them carry Ullrich Tournaments -, a table with a myriad of specialities. Not cheap, 1500 EUR, or roughly 570 000 Ft. It is still one of the most affordable professional tables available and one of the best. Many times has a refurbished version, which usually costs €100 less. The Ullrich Sport Tournament Trolley Table
The Tournament is a special, foosball table with all kinds of customized solutions. Basically, it's widespread in Germany and Switzerland, not played much elsewhere, but as the Germans have one of the strongest leagues in the world, players from neighbouring countries - French, Swiss, Hungarian, Benelux, etc. - come over to play it. The speciality of the table is that it has an extremely rough ball handling, which makes it a relatively poor, but with a very sticky ball. That means you can do a lot of things on it, at a speed that you can't do anywhere else. A typical game element on P4P tables is wall shot, as this is a table without a ramp.
The dummies are wedge-shaped, with a counterweight in the head, and the material of the playing surface is most similar to that of Leonhart. This is another 11 dummies, the basic colours are blue and black, as is the painting of the table body. The legs are made of relatively soft wood, but have a large metal washer to distribute the load, and the grip is good, and they are stiffened so they don't loosen much, unlike the legs of the Garlando. In addition, they can be folded and locked into the table body for transport, forming a compact whole with the table.
Also a special element is that the slider bushing can be unscrewed, so that the entire row with dummies can be removed in 1 minute. The handle is a rubberised polygon, is secured by an allen screw, it has a pretty good grip. The palm is a bit thick for my palm, fortunately this has been corrected on the new 2022 version, which has a black and white base colour. The dummies are held in place not by a screw but by a special pin, which can be put in place with a knockout tool, which is lucky in that it cannot fall off, but if broken, it needs a tool to get it out. The mechanics of the ball dispenser is also special, it is a magnetic limbo solution, which, when pressed, directs the ball in the direction in which the player has just pushed it. This means you can take the ball out in four directions, 2-2 per side, something other tables can't do. Another interesting feature is that on the score marker, sets can be drawn up to 4 and there is a time-out signal.
Advantages of the Ullrich Sport Tournament Foosball Table
As you can see from the above, the Ullrich Sport Tournament the game is a rather unique experience. The ball sticks in an amazing way, you can catch the balls with your toes, you feel like an incredible king, it's a great gaming experience. The ball is very easy to pin and backpin, so a lot of people shoot pinshots, europins, jet snake and pretty much every other shot imaginable. Obviously, the preferred shots are those that require a lot of grip, but a skilled player can make practically anything on it. Of course a video is worth more than words, you can see that below:
The handle sticks very well and cannot be pulled off, is fixed in place, practically never needs replacing. In the event of a dummy break, the entire row can be removed in 1 minute, which is exactly how the German "Tischdoctors" used to fix the broken dummy problem during a race. There are several variations of the table, first the fixing of the leg was changed, then for the 2022 version, slight modifications have been made to the dummy's feet and distance from the playing surface, the material of the playing surface, the handle - smaller and circular than the Leok - and the colour scheme - one set was grey and the table was white - further improving the game experience. The goalposts on the tables in the tournament have also been replaced with metal, so that the ball that is shot there "rings", there is no debate about whether or not it has been scored, and it never breaks because it is much harder than the ball. The balls are much cheaper than for other tables. They cost EUR 2, so you can buy them by the handful. And for the 2023 Munich P4P tournament, they have brought in a orange, a much more robust test ball, which also solves the ball stealing problem detailed below. The price will still be 2 EUR according to the news.
The rod virtually never warps, very sturdy, no problems, the table is heavy as mud, so it hardly moves during play, as long as you tighten the legs properly and the supports are up. Plus, it's relatively quiet to play on, so for those who want less disturbance for the neighbours, it's a better choice than a tin-top Garlando. All in all, it's a very game-centric piece of sports equipment that provides a great playing experience.
Disadvantages of the Ullrich Sport Tournament Foosball Table
As much as there are advantages to Tournament, there are also all sorts of weird things about the table. One of the funniest and most annoying phenomena is when the dummy's head simply falls off during a shot. The reason is that it has a metal counterweight - there are some without counterweights, available in their webshop - which causes the momentum to simply break it. It's quite a hassle to replace the dummy - plus you have to take the rest off -, because you have to beat the stfit out of it, which a special tool - splintaustreiber in German - must. You have to buy it separately, about 6 EUR, but you must always have a hammer with you, otherwise you will not be able to do the replacement. The pin can break, this is usually not visible from the outside, when the Leonhart tables make a clucking sound, which can be heard when the dummy is driving the ball. It is no coincidence that the entire row is changed at a tournament to avoid the hassle.
The other thing to hate is the mean ball. Even when new, it doesn't roll straight, so everyone does an extreme amount of microcontrolling with it - the best example being world champion Yannick Correia - and the goalpost also cuts the surface. A typical scenario in P4P tournaments is that the pieces of material protruding from the ball are pulled off the edge of the table by the players, and then the excess is smoothed over the top of the table. So the ball becomes a consumable, be prepared for that. It's a notch worse than Leo, and a lot better than Garlando. Because the ball is very sticky, it's not suitable for all types of play, and players on other tables will need to acclimatise to the ball, but that's true of course for all table changes.
The goalpost, let's not gloss over it, is a hat poo. The plastic frame breaks down pretty quickly, and the gripping is clumsy, practically held in place by two nails, not a durable solution, fortunately the metal version fixes this problem. Although I wouldn't say it's a specific fault, it's worth deciding at the start of the game who takes the ball out, as physically everyone can do it. It's common for goalkeepers to reach in for the ball and give it to their striker after they've scored, but it's also possible to take the ball out Leonhartos style when the striker who scored the goal does it. The point is to make this clear at the start of the doubles match, otherwise the players will start doing some weird dancing, which is a very unappealing sight.
Ullrih Sport Tournament accessories
Basically, a good lamp can fit on this table, and you can buy one Ullrich Light around 45 000 Ft. It's also worth buying a couple of dummies, a goalpost, some dummy pins and a knockout tool to go with the table. I think you can also put on this table the Kickerlight Kicker 4 ALL but I wouldn't bet on it.
The Ullrich Sport Tournament foosball table in our country
As far as I know, there are two public places to play P4P in the UK - the MultiTable in the club and the Gál-A pub, Balatonboglár -, however tables can be rented for around 15 000 HUF/month. The nearest competitions are in big German cities - Munich is about 650 kilometres away, that's where it usually is - and there was a P4P competition in Vienna a few years ago called the Austrian Summer Games. A trip to Germany can be made for about 100-150 000 HUF very economically - e.g. you take food from home and don't drink coffee for 4 EUR on the motorway - at 2023 prices, all costs included.
Summary
If you are looking for a really good gaming experience, P4P Ullrich Sport is your table. It has the strongest field in the world, is popular with players from many nations and is a very technical table, I would definitely recommend trying one if you get the chance, but unfortunately you have to go quite far to get there.
